Internet Explorer 11 jumps to 16.61% market share, while Internet Explorer 8 remains at the top

New data from Net Applications for the month of April 2014 has been released, showcasing just how well Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser has performed in terms of market share. According to the data, the company's latest browser, Internet Explorer 11, has seen an increase in market share bringing it to 16.61% for the month of April. This is up from the previous share of 15.71% for the month of March. However, Internet Explorer 8 remains at the top of the charts.

Internet Explorer 11 now holds a 16.61% share, compared to the previous month's 15.71%. Internet Explorer 8 remains at the top with a 20.85% share, compared to the previous month's 21.14%. Clearly, Internet Explorer 11 is on track to overtake Internet Explorer 8 and become the top browser, as the gap between the two narrows.

While Internet Explorer remains the top browser, Mozilla's Firefox 28 comes in second place with a 12.28% share. Google's Chrome comes in third place with a 8.64% share.

Remote Desktop Preview app now available for Windows Phone 8.1

If you currently have Windows Phone 8.1 installed on your device as part of the Windows Phone Preview for Developers, you can now try out the Remote Desktop Preview app which is now available in the Windows Phone Store to download.
                        

The Remote Desktop Preview app uses RDP 8.1 and RemoteFX that enables you to have a rich multi-touch experience that supports Windows gestures when you connect to Windows 8 devices for example. Nokia Lumia 930 to land in Italy in June with a €599.90 price tag(rumor)

Earlier this month, Nokia unveiled three new Windows Phone 8.1 powered handsets: Nokia Lumia 630, 635 and 930. The first two are budget devices, and is expected to launch in various parts of the globe in May, while the high-end Lumia 930 will hit retail in June. The Lumia 630/635 will hit retail in some European countries for €149.90, but there's no word about the exact launch date nor pricing of the Lumia 930. Recently, the folks at Plaffo are reporting, citing a source who has been reliable in the past, that the Nokia Lumia 930 will hit Italian shores in June for €599.90/649.90.

The Nokia Lumia 930 brings high-end specifications to the table -- it's basically the Nokia Lumia Icon for international markets. For those of you who can't recall, Lumia 930 rocks a 5-inch 1080p display, and comes with a quad-core Snapdragon 800 SoC clocked at 2.2GHz with 2GB of RAM on board. Other features include 32GB internal storage with an additional 7GB SkyDrive storage, 20MP camera with PureView technology and Carl Zeiss Optics, a 2,420 mAh battery and runs the latest Windows Phone 8.1 OS out of the box.

It's not confirmed at the moment so a grain of salt is advised. It won't be a surprise if the price turns out to be around €600, as flagship devices from other OEMs are also running for a similar price tag in Europe.  We'll update you as soon as it becomes official.

Bill Gates beaten into second place by Steve Jobs in CNBC rankings

CNBC has compiled its annual CNBC First 25 list, profiling the people deemed to have had the most impact on business and finance. Despite having left the helm of Microsoft some time ago, Bill Gates still ranks very highly, although he is beaten into second place by none other than Steve Jobs.

Described by CNBC as "Microsoft founder and philanthropist", Gates has a "rare acumen for software development and technological innovation" according to the outlet. The site points out that Gates managed to become a billionaire by the age of 31, is currently valued at around $76 billion, more recently setting up the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation "with the goal of addressing problems in public health and education".

But it is the late Steve Jobs to takes the top spot. "Apple's iVisionary" is singled out for "fashion[ing] the experience of using the one we now carry around". Jobs is heralded for putting "an indelible stamp on the wider culture".

Other familiar names from the world of tech that feature in the list include HTC's Cher Wang (22), eBay's Meg Whitman (18), Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg (8) and Sergey Brin‚ Larry Page and Eric Schmidt making a joint appearance for Google (4).

Clocks are redundant on Windows Phone with Glance, Lock screen and one in the system bar. But we’re not here to preach and tell you how to design your Start layout, that’s what makes Windows Phonepersonal. A Motion Sensing Mechanical Keyboard

We present a new type of augmented mechanical keyboard, sensing rich and expressive motion gestures performed both on and directly above the device. A low-resolution matrix of infrared (IR) proximity sensors is interspersed with the keys of a regular mechanical keyboard. This results in coarse but high frame-rate motion data. We extend a machine learning algorithm, traditionally used for static classification only, to robustly support dynamic, temporal gestures. We propose the use of motion signatures a technique that utilizes pairs of motion history images and a random forest classifier to robustly recognize a large set of motion gestures. Our technique achieves a mean per-frame classification accuracy of 75:6% in leave–one–subject–out and 89:9% in half-test/half-training cross-validation. We detail hardware and gesture recognition algorithm, provide accuracy results, and demonstrate a large set of gestures designed to be performed with the device. We conclude with qualitative feedback from users, discussion of limitations and areas for future work.
